Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States, is located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, just east of the Dominican Republic. It comprises an archipelago made up of the main island of Puerto Rico and a number of smaller islands, all of which belong to the Greater Antilles. The island is popularly known in Spanish as “La Isla del Encanto,” which means “The Island of Enchantment.” Due to its location, Puerto Rico enjoys a year round tropical climate, with an average daytime temperature of 82.4 °F. The territory is mostly mountainous, with large coastal areas in the north and south. Home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site (Old San Juan City), rain forests, bioluminescent bays, hundreds of waterfalls, acres of historical fortifications, as well as a rich and diverse cultural history, Puerto Rico verily rings with Old World charm and romance – a perfect setting for your destination wedding!
The magnificent Central American country of Costa Rica (“rich coast”) is flanked by the Pacific Ocean to the west and to the south and by the Caribbean Sea to the east. Boasting the greatest density of species in the world, over 25% of the country’s national territory is protected by SINAC (the National System of Conservation Areas). Costa Rica has many microclimates, depending on elevation, rainfall, and geography, but the climate for the region as whole is tropical year round, whether you’re traversing the gorgeous Central Cordillera Mountains, or enjoying the country’s lengthy pristine coastlines. As the country was once the meeting point for a variety of cultures, Costa Rican cuisine is often an exquisite blend of unique flavors, including Native American, Spanish, and African. The spirited but gentle people of this Latin American haven are unfailingly polite and always welcoming, making this an idyllic destination for nuptials.
The archipelago known as Fiji is comprised of more than 332 stunning volcanic islands set against the astonishingly blue waters of the South Pacific. Nadi is a region located on the western side of Viti Levu, one of Fiji’s main islands. Nearby are the famous western mud-flat beaches, Nausori highlands to the east, and easy access to the Sabeto and Sigatoka valleys. Other notable attractions in the area include the Waqadra Botanical Gardens and the Sleeping Giant Gardens, which house Raymond Burr’s famous orchid collection. Fiji’s year-round temperate climate and its spectacular beauty would, alone or together, make for an ideal wedding location, but the warmth and generous spirit of the Fijian people put this destination in a class all its own.
Jamaica is an island nation of the Greater Antilles, a cluster of islands in the Caribbean. Its indigenous inhabitants named the island Xaymaca, meaning “Land of Wood and Water” or “Land of Springs.” The island nation is home to the Blue Mountains inland and is surrounded by a narrow coastal plain. The island also boasts the seventh largest natural harbor in the world – Kingston Harbor. Attractions are scattered across the country and include Dunn’s River Falls in St. Ann, YS Falls in St. Elizabeth, and the Blue Lagoon in Portland. Jamaica’s climate is tropical with predictably warm weather along its coastline, although a more temperate climate prevails in the higher inland regions. The lovely city of Montego Bay, located along Jamaica’s northwest coast, is backed by picturesque low mountains. Here, the turquoise blue waters stretch as far as the eye can see and the fun never ends – world-class resorts, dining, shopping, and nightlife beckon. Negril, conversely, is a small and widely dispersed, beach resort town located on the far western tip of the island. Showcasing one of the finest beaches in the world, a significant factor in Negril’s charm is that much of the area remains fairly undeveloped. Jamaica’s allure as a definitive wedding destination is nearly unrivaled. The sun, the water, the dramatic backdrops, and the welcoming people – all coalesce into a very satisfying and memorable experience.
Lunigiana, Tuscany, Italy
The Lunigiana is an historical territory of Italy, situated between the provinces of La Spezia and Massa Carrara. Its borders derive from the ancient Roman settlement, Luni – a principal urban center along the northern Tuscan coast during Roman times. The region is comprised of a series of lush, verdant valleys, ringed by the Apuan Alps and the Apennine Mountains and stretching northwest to the famed coasts of Tuscany and Liguria. With over one-hundred-and-fifty castles in the area, miles of pristine Mediterranean beaches, and easy access to Florence, Lucca, Pisa, the Cinque Terre, Portofino, and Genova, the Lunigiana is one of the best-kept secrets in all of Europe. My Dreamz Events is pleased to provide destination wedding services in select locations within this stunning, historical region of Tuscany.
